HISTORY
Balıkesir University Vocational School Mechanical Engineering Department. Among the departments established in 1990 within the scope of the YÖK-World Bank Vocational Schools 2nd Project, it continues to be among the important institutions that train mechanical technicians in the technological field in our country.
There is a Machinery Program within the scope of the department, and education was provided as daytime and evening education in the said program, and since the 2019-2020 Academic Year, education continues only as daytime education.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES/EMPLOYMENT AREAS
Graduates of the Mechanical and Metal Technologies Department can work in the metal industry in public or private institutions, or they can open various scale businesses operating in the metal sector through their own personal initiatives. Additionally, employment opportunities in the public sector are also available through public personnel recruitment exams.
In addition, graduates of the department can obtain the title of technology teacher and engineer by completing the license in the relevant branches as a result of the vertical transfer exam.
Summer internships are beneficial for students studying in this department in preparing for business life.
DEGREE EARNED
Students who successfully complete this program will receive an Associate Degree in Machinery and Metal Technologies .
ACCEPTING AND REGISTRATION CONDITIONS
Balikesir University Machinery and Metal Technologies Program, Measurement, Selection and Placement
Students are accepted through a centralized exam administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Students are admitted to the department based on TYT scores, and the department offers a two-year associate degree program.
Qualification Conditions and Rules
In order for a student to graduate from the Machinery and Metal Technologies program, he/she must have a general grade point average (transcript) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, pass the compulsory courses in the education-training program, be successful in other studies foreseen in the program, complete a total credit load of 120 ECTS, and have been approved for graduation by the relevant board of directors.
EXAMS, ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION
All students must register for classes at the beginning of the semester and attend at least 70% of the classes to be eligible for the final exam. Students will take at least one midterm exam (midterm) and one final exam (final) for each course. All exams are graded out of 100, with the midterm accounting for 40% and the final exam accounting for 60%. A minimum score of 50 on the final exam, with an average of 45, is required. Passing grades are converted to letter grades according to the table. Students who receive a letter grade of AA, BA, BB, CB, or CC in a course are considered successful. DC and DD grades are conditional passing grades. Courses that receive a letter grade of FF and are considered failed are repeated in the first semester they are offered.
ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAMS THAT CAN BE TRANSFERRED BETWEEN DEPARTMENTS
The procedures and principles to be followed in horizontal transfers between diploma programs within Balıkesir Vocational School or to equivalent diploma programs in other higher education institutions are regulated in the "Balıkesir University Directive on the Principles of Horizontal Transfer within and Between Institutions" ( https://kms.kaysis.gov.tr/Home/Goster/61834 ).
Students wishing to transfer using the central placement base score (Additional Article 1) must have a central placement score (YKS) in the year they enrolled equal to or higher than the base score of the programs they wish to transfer to at our University. Furthermore, they must not have previously availed themselves of this right. Procedures and principles regarding these procedures are outlined on the relevant website.
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS THAT CAN BE TRANSFERRED VERTICALLY FROM THE DEPARTMENT
Graduates who wish to continue their education have the opportunity to transfer to four-year undergraduate programs at various universities, depending on their scores and quota status in the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center.

They can also directly enroll in the Open Education Faculty's Economics and Business Administration departments.
